Tokai Rika x Tapkey – the Success Story
The Tapkey platform is growing: we are pleased to announce a new partnership in the automotive aftermarket with the Japanese provider Tokai Rika Digitalkey. Together with the technology company dotD, Tokai Rika offers its customers Freekey, an innovative car access solution in the C2C sector. In addition, Digitalkey’s offering is also aimed at integrators in various sectors with a need for smart vehicle access. The key management platform from Tapkey provides an essential technological basis for this.
Successful Partnership in Japan
The Japanese automotive supplier set out to find a technology that would allow existing vehicles to be easily shared and opened with a smartphone. The company, whose renowned customers include Toyota, found what it was looking for on the other side of the world, of all places.
“The seamless integration of Tapkey’s technology allowed us to quickly implement a reliable solution for the Japanese car sharing market with significantly reduced technical risk,” explains Masahiko Oya, project manager at Tokai Rika.
Gregor Zehetner, Co-CEO of Tapkey comments: “We are delighted to have gained another strong platform partner in Tokai Rika. Tapkey is not restricted by continental borders and we see this partnership as a crucial milestone in the global expansion of our business activities.”
Flexible car sharing box
Since car rental and car sharing providers use vehicles of different brands, a manufacturer-independent solution was needed. With the Freekey Box and the associated app, Digitalkey addresses customers in the peer-to-peer car sharing and fleet management sector. Regardless of whether it’s a BMW, Toyota or Mini, users simply deposit their key in the black box and store it in the vehicle. Authorised app users can then easily open vehicles on their smartphone. Tapkey’s patented technology enables simple and secure sharing of mobile keys.

Anyca, a Japanese private car sharing provider offers its customers a completely keyless car sharing experience. The contactless vehicle handover is particularly appreciated by users.
