When digital hub provider Conrad Connect shows off its latest offerings at Berlin’s renowned IFA tech trade show in September, Tapkey will be sharing the spotlight. That’s because Tapkey, along with legendary climate-control brand Honeywell, are two of the latest additions to the Conrad Connect ecosystem.

“Tapkey’s ability to provide on-the-go access to locks with a ‘texted key’ to any smartphone makes it the perfect addition to the Conrad Connect system,” observes Tapkey CEO Gilbert Hödl.

The universe of smart access and control just got bigger

Conrad Connect plans to demo a specific example of how it integrates Tapkey and Honeywell, seamlessly, while at IFA.

The scenario goes something like this:

Suppose you want to book a meeting room. You’d like to invite people, give them access, set the temperature of the room in advance, and notify your maintenance department just in case the heating or cooling isn’t working perfectly. Now, you can do all of that, using the intuitive “if/then” interface of the Conrad Connect app, via smartphone or computer. It not only connects Tapkey locks and Honeywell thermostats; it also works seamlessly with Google Calendar.

Let’s say you want to reserve Conference Room 3 on October 3rd, from 10 to 11 a.m. You want to invite Mona, Greg, and Mark to your meeting. And you’d like to set the temperature at a comfy 70 degrees, ten minutes before they arrive. All you need to do is to create a calendar entry for the meeting, select the attendees, and enter the desired temperature.

Tapkey and Conrad Connect in action

What happens next is downright magical. Your guests (Mona, Greg, and Mark) all get invitations to the meeting via Google Calendar. At the same time, they receive digital keys on their smartphones. This lets them use their smartphones to open the room’s Tapkey-enabled lock with just a tap, during just the timeframe that you selected. (The access is revoked immediately thereafter, just as you’d requested.) And the Honeywell thermostat knows to set the room to the right temperature, ten minutes in advance, and then revert to an energy-saving temperature after the meeting is over.

But what if there’s a problem with the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system? What if it’s not delivering enough heat? The sensor in the Honeywell thermostat will detect the error. Conrad Connect will automatically send an alert message to the building’s HVAC technician. And it will even send a Tapkey digital key to that technician’s smartphone to access the meeting room, utility room, or both.

Tapkey does even more

Tapkey will also be showcasing many of its other talents at IFA. The platform offers smart digital locking products for homes, businesses, car-sharing, and fleet management. It provides on-the-go access to vehicles, doors, rental properties, digital delivery boxes, and much, much more.

We hope to see you at IFA! It’s in Berlin from September 1–6. We’ll be at the Conrad Connect display in Hall 6.2, Booth 102.
